03/06/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 3 June, Dutch far-right leader Geert Wilders announced via the X network that his ‘Party for Freedom’ (PVV) was withdrawing from the government coalition following a disagreement over immigration. “No signature for our asylum plan... The PVV is leaving the coalition”, he declared. This move opens the door to new general elections barely a year after the current government, led by Dick Schoof, took office. According to AFP, Geert Wilders felt that the government, which brings together right-wing and centre-right parties, was taking too long to implement the strictest immigration policy ever seen in the Netherlands, as promised by his party in the November 2023 elections, which the PVV won.
