03/06/25 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 3 June, the Bruegel think-tank published an analysis of possible strategies for implementing the Nature Restoration Law by the EU Member States after its adoption in June 2024 (see EUROPE 13433/2). Bruegel sees three paths: -1) The countries aim to achieve a balanced distribution of restoration efforts between the various ecosystems, giving priority to Natura 2000 sites; - 2) countries focus on cost-efficiency in order to achieve the EU’s objectives at the lowest cost; 3) priority is given to the climate benefits of restoring nature, targeting first and foremost ecosystems with a high carbon capture capacity. Bruegel warns that “governments that focus solely on minimising expenses are not making the best long-term investment decisions for their societies”. To see the analysis: https://aeur.eu/f/h5f (FS)
