Negotiators from the European Parliament and the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU were due to meet again on the evening of Tuesday 3 June for trilogue negotiations on the revision of Regulation 883/2004 on the coordination of social security schemes.
This was the first trilogue since the end of 2023. The Council of the EU had a revised mandate in April (see EUROPE 13620/20) and the European Parliament agreed to resume work.
However, positions remained divergent, with Parliament still wishing to bring back an exception for the construction sector for postings of less than three days, while the Council Presidency abolished any obligation of prior notification to the competent authority for this type of short assignment.
There are also opposing views on the duration of unemployment benefit exports for mobile workers. A number of proposals and counter-proposals from both sides were due to be exchanged until the start of the meeting. However, at the time of going to press, it was not yet certain that it would lead to a first positive result, even if the Polish Presidency seemed to have devoted a fairly long period of time to trying to make progress. Another potentially conclusive trilogue could also be held on 17 June. (Original version in French by Solenn Paulic)
