03/06/2025 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament’s Agriculture Committee finally appointed its fourth vice-chairman in a secret ballot on Tuesday 3 June. Krzysztof Hetman (EPP, Polish) was preferred to Mireia Borrás Pabón (PfE, Spanish). The latter strongly criticised the result of the vote, denouncing it as “yet another shameful chapter” in which the EPP allied itself with the Socialists, Renew Europe and the radical left to prevent the Parliament’s third largest political group, represented by a woman to boot, from gaining access to the Vice-Presidency. She described this blockage as an “undemocratic veto”. The four vice-chairs of the Agriculture Committee are men (https://aeur.eu/f/h5k ): three from the EPP and one from the S&D group. The S&D group has reportedly asked the EPP to put forward a woman for this post, to no avail. (LC)
