14/05/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 14 May, the European Commission launched a consultation seeking views on draft European legislation on biotechnology. The proposal, expected in 2026, aims to boost competitiveness and stimulate biotechnology production in the EU. Biotechnology offers considerable economic and societal benefits, with a contribution of €38.1 billion to the European economy in 2022. The European Biotech Act should tackle the regulatory and commercial barriers that currently limit the competitiveness of biotech companies in Europe. Stakeholders, including businesses, researchers and civil society, are invited to take part in the public consultation, which is open until 11 June 2025. Details: https://aeur.eu/f/gtq (LC)
