At an event organised by the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU on Tuesday 15 April, political decision-makers, industry representatives and stakeholders discussed electric mobility and explored strategies for advancing sustainable transport in Europe.
According to the minutes of the meeting provided by Poland, the participants discussed the electrification of corporate fleets and called for European regulations to set binding targets (see EUROPE 13617/22). They argued that companies, which benefit from tax incentives for electric vehicles, should lead the transition. Regulatory stability and investment certainty are key elements in driving this change.
Participants also addressed the issue of social leasing of electric vehicles, seen as a dual-purpose solution: to combat transport poverty and to support local industry (see EUROPE 13598/22). It was pointed out that, although social leasing is promising, effective implementation across the EU will require tailored national approaches, robust state support, and consideration of issues like vehicle residual value and second-life usage.
