27/09/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 26 September, in a letter addressed to the re-elected President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the Spinelli Group in the European Parliament, made up of MEPs in favour of a federal Europe, including Sandro Gozi (Renew Europe, Italian), Markus Ferber (EPP, German), Klára Dobrev (S&D, Hungarian), Daniel Freund (Greens/EFA, German) and Nikólaos Farantoúris (The Left, Greek), expressed its “deep concern” that the mission letters of the European Commissioners-designate make no mention of launching a process of institutional reform or of reforming electoral law. The letter also notes, by way of reminder, that in November 2023, the European Parliament activated a process aimed at convening a Convention to reform the European treaties (see EUROPE 13298/7). They promised that the European Commissioners-designate would be questioned on this issue during their hearings in Parliament. See the letter: https://aeur.eu/f/dmv (MB)
