27/09/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 27 September, at a ministerial meeting of the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) in New York, High Representative of the Union Josep Borrell announced that the EU would support the African Union (AU) with its expertise in developing a continental plan to combat terrorism in Africa “which is the key element for implementing the Malabo Declaration of 2022”. He called on other GCTF members to do their utmost to support cooperation at continental level. The meeting, to which the AU Commission was invited, aimed in part to see where the GCTF and the AU could work closely together to provide a “much needed” civilian response to the threat of terrorism on the African continent. According to Mr Borrell, Africa is the place where the terrorist threat is growing fastest and where all the indicators are red. (CG)
