On Wednesday 25 September, the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) published an update of its guide ‘Quality considerations for EIGE’s Gender Statistics Database ’. This updated document includes guidance on best practice for data collection on sex, gender identity and other intersecting inequalities.
The recommendations include maintaining the “sex” categories in official registers, adding “gender identity” to general surveys and carrying out specific studies on marginalised populations, such as non-binary people.
In addition, by introducing intersectional approaches, the EIGE provides a better understanding of structural inequalities by integrating factors such as age, ethnic origin and socio-economic status.
The aim of this improved resource is to provide EU policy-makers with more detailed and consistent data to develop inclusive policies that address the complex realities of gender inequality.
