On Tuesday 30 April, the European Commission announced that it had set up two new whistleblowing tools for civil society and, more broadly, European citizens so that they could share their experiences of the practices of digital platforms and companies.
The two tools enable interested parties to report information that may be of interest to the European Commission, in particular with regard to the verification and implementation of rules relating to the Digital Services and Markets Acts (DSA and DMA).
Whistleblowers will be able to provide relevant information on an anonymous basis if they wish, in any official EU language and in any relevant format, explained the Commission in its press release.
Similarly, people who encounter harmful practices by ‘Very Large Online Platforms’ (‘VLOPs’) or ‘Very Large Online Search Engines’ (‘VLOSEs’) will also be able to lodge complaints with their national digital services coordinator.
The tools are available online, on dedicated websites.
