30/04/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 29 April, the European Commission announced that it had added ‘Wiener Gemischter Satz’, a traditional white wine from Vienna, to the Community register of protected designations of origin (PDOs). ‘Wiener Gemischter Satz’ is drunk exclusively as a young white wine. Its colour palette ranges from pale, almost transparent yellow through golden green to pale straw yellow. The taste comes from a blend of early and late ripening varieties and a multitude of flavours, mainly pear, apple, citrus and, rarely, exotic fruits such as banana, pineapple and fig. This new designation will be added to the list of 1,644 wines already protected at EU level. (LC)
