30/04/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 29 April, the European Commission announced the launch of a study on the visibility and promotion of cultural diversity online, focusing on how cultural content is discovered and the impact of technologies such as algorithmic recommendations. This initiative aims to assess access and exposure to cultural and linguistic diversity, particularly in the music and book sectors. A consortium including the independent research institute Panteia, the Universities of Rotterdam and Warsaw, the IMEC-SMIT research group at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), and the consultancy firms KEA European Affairs and IDEA Consult will lead the project, which will run for 18 months, with results expected in the second half of 2025. Discussion groups, an interactive workshop and a conference will be organised to integrate the perspectives of various experts and sectors. (NP)
