30/04/24 (Agence Europe) – The European Union’s restrictive measures against a series of military leaders active in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) will come into force on Wednesday 1 May. Eight people named as having committed or supported acts undermining the peace, stability or security of the DRC were singled out on Tuesday in a publication in the Official Journal of the EU. The list includes Willy Ngoma, military spokesman for the ‘M23’ militia, and Protogène Ruvugayimikore, leader of a unit of the Democratic Liberation Forces of Rwanda, both active in North Kivu (see EUROPE 13360/7). These people can no longer benefit from the slightest technical assistance, such as the supply of military equipment or financial aid. Any economic resources they may have are also frozen throughout the EU. (BD)
