30/04/2024 (Agence Europe) – In a joint declaration on Monday 29 April (https://aeur.eu/f/c10 ), the ministers for European affairs of the Weimar countries (Germany, France and Poland) called for the first intergovernmental conferences on Ukraine and Moldova to be organised by the end of June. Highlighting the “remarkable progress” made by the two countries on their EU path, the ministers suggested that the European Commission provide the EU Council with an updated assessment, with a view to the General Affairs Council on 25 June, “in order to facilitate the adoption of the negotiating frameworks for the formal opening of accession negotiations by the end of the Belgian Presidency”. According to one source, this opening will make the European trajectory of Ukraine and Moldova somewhat less reversible. The ministers also announced plans to hold a joint meeting with their counterparts in Ukraine in the near future. (CG)
