09/04/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 10 April, MEPs on the Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI) and Committee on Civil Liberties (LIBE) adopted (by 50 votes in favour and 2 abstentions) the text resulting from the interinstitutional agreement reached on 6 March (see EUROPE 13366/8) pertaining to the proposal for a regulation on the transfer of proceedings in criminal matters between Member States. To speed up investigations into cross-border organised crime, the proposed new legal framework would avoid parallel proceedings for the same case by limiting prosecutions to the country that would be best suited to carrying them out. Common criteria for transfers have been defined: the location of the offence, the residence or presence of suspects and the location of the majority of evidence or witnesses. The law also protects the rights of suspects, defendants and victims. View the text: https://aeur.eu/f/bo5 (NP)
