On Tuesday 9 April, the European Commission announced that it had authorised a €476 million Czech scheme to facilitate the supply of affordable flats that the market would not provide. These affordable housing units will be rented to households with limited resources, young families or households where at least one member is active in a ‘profession of essential nature’.
More specifically, the funding will support the construction, reconstruction and acquisition of affordable rental flats.
The project will be part-funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), the main instrument of the European recovery plan, NextGenerationEU. Assistance will be provided in the form of a loan or a combination of loans and a direct grant.
The Commission stresses that beneficiaries will be selected from among eligible beneficiaries on the basis of a number of criteria, such as design quality and environmental, social and economic sustainability.
The aid will be granted no later than 31 December 2029. (Original version in French by Émilie Vanderhulst)
