On Thursday 29 February, the European Commission announced the launch of a new financial support instrument targeting national civil protection authorities “to enhance disaster prevention and preparedness in the EU and beyond”.
Called the “Technical Assistance Financing Facility for Disaster Prevention and Preparedness” (TAFF), this instrument, with initial funding of €6 million, is designed to support projects, studies and trainings in the area of resilience to disasters and climate change. It should also promote the sharing of information and knowledge between the countries of the European Union, as well as Georgia and Kosovo.
Fully funded by the European Union, it is managed by the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery, and its activities are implemented by the World Bank in coordination with the European Commission.
In February 2023, the European Commission adopted a recommendation and a communication to establish common goals to boost disaster resilience in the area of civil protection (see EUROPE 13117/5). (Original version in French by Isalia Stieffatre)
