Brussels, 29/02/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 29 February, the NGO Reporters Without Borders (RSF) published a list of 12 proposals to create a ‘New Deal’ for the Right to Information. “The EU must rise to the challenge, both for European citizens and for the Union itself, and make the right to information a priority for the next 5 years with game-changing measures”, declared RSF Secretary General Christophe Deloire, 100 days ahead of European elections. Aimed at the political parties, the list drawn up by RSF proposes, among other things, that the right to reliable information be incorporated in the Treaty on European Union, that the major digital platforms be taxed to fund journalism, and that a European Commission vice-president for democracy and fundamental rights be appointed to implement the ‘New Deal’ for the Right to Information.
