29/02/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 29 February, the European Commission proposed to support 835 workers made redundant in the German steel industry with €3 million from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) for redundant workers. It also proposed supporting 390 workers made redundant in the meat processing industry in Denmark, with aid of €1.9 million from the same fund, it said in a press release. The EGF support programme includes counselling services, job search assistance and training. In November 2023, Germany applied for EGF funding to help workers made redundant by steel tube producer Vallourec, after the company decided to close its German tube plants and transfer production to Brazil. The Council of the EU and the European Parliament must approve this aid. (SP)
