The day after it was approved by the European Parliament (see EUROPE 13360/36), the European Commission officially adopted the amendment to the EU’s 2024 budget as part of the revision of the multiannual financial framework. This draft amending budget implements the revision of the MFF for 2024, as agreed by the European Parliament and the EU Council.
The speed of implementation, welcomed by all the European institutions, is due in particular to the importance of this revision for Ukraine. The ‘Ukraine Facility’, the instrument enabling the allocation of €50 billion to the country, is included in this reworking.
This amendment to the EU’s annual budget for 2024 represents an increase of €5.8 billion, covering the strengthening of the ‘Ukraine Facility’ with an additional €4.8 billion; - €1.5 billion for the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP), via the European Defence Fund; - a €365 million increase in the EU Solidarity Fund and the Emergency Aid Reserve; - €501 million increase in the ‘Reform and Growth Facility’ for the Western Balkans.
