European Parliament ratifies introduction of instant credit transfers in euro

On Wednesday 7 February, with 599 votes in favour, 7 against and 35 abstentions, MEPs voted in favour of a new regulation aimed at harmonising the use of instant credit transfers in euro and the ‘IBAN’ bank code within the EU and the European Economic Area.

Having been agreed between the European Parliament and the EU Council in November 2023 (see EUROPE B13288A15), the regulation is part of the Capital Markets Union (CMU) project(see EUROPE B13183A3) and will come into force in 18...
