22/11/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 22 November, at its plenary session in Strasbourg, the European Parliament almost unanimously (626 votes in favour, 4 against, 5 abstentions) adopted the interinstitutional agreement on the decisions of European standardisation organisations. The European Parliament and the EU Council reached an agreement in early October after holding just one interinstitutional meeting (see EUROPE 13041/6). According to the contents of the agreement, third countries’ national standards bodies should not hinder the work of European standardisation organisations when a European Commission proposal only has the support of EU Member States and the European Economic Area (see EUROPE 13041/6). Moreover, the agreement emphasises the inclusive nature of the standardisation process and highlights the role of SME, consumer, social, and environmental interests. The text will be formally adopted at the Justice and Home Affairs Council (JHA). (PH)
