22/11/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 22 November, MEPs voted in favour of the report by Angel Dzhambazki (Greens/ECR, Bulgarian) on the initial qualification and periodic training of drivers of certain road vehicles for the carriage of goods or passengers (631 votes in favour, 1 against, 3 abstentions) and thus established their position for future inter-institutional negotiations. In concrete terms, the text, which was adopted in the European Parliament’s Committee on Legal Affairs on 27 October, is a codification of existing texts, without any change in their substance. It aims to ensure the quality of drivers and imposes the obligation of an initial qualification and continuous training, with a view to improving road safety and driver safety, including during operations carried out with the vehicle stationary.
