22/11/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 22 November, the European Parliament approved the compromise text between EU institutions on access restrictions for fishing vessels. The report by Pierre Karleskind (Renew Europe, French) on this matter was approved with 608 votes in favour, 13 against and 9 abstentions. The text extends the restrictions on access to EU waters for 10 years (see EUROPE 13051/37). In addition, a declaration by the European Commission and the European Parliament provides for the possibility of technical measures for demersal seines. The European Parliament had wanted to ban these devices near the French coast (Hauts-de-France and Normandy). The rules will apply throughout the EU from 1 January 2023. After the plenary vote, the agreement will have to be formally approved by the EU Council. More info: https://aeur.eu/f/465 (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
