Brussels, 26/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 26 October, members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Fisheries approved the compromise text between EU institutions on access restrictions for fishing vessels. The draft report by Pierre Karleskind (Renew Europe, French) on this dossier was approved with 19 votes in favour, 1 against and 2 abstentions. The text extends the restrictions on access to EU waters for ten years (see EUROPE 13033/8, 13043/5). In addition, in a declaration by the European Commission and the European Parliament, it provides for the possibility of technical measures concerning demersal seines. The European Parliament had wanted to ban these devices near the French coast (Hauts-de-France and Normandy). The text still needs to be formally adopted by the European Parliament and the EU Council. (LC)
