The European Union and the United States have jointly launched a task force on the US Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the European Commission announced on Wednesday 26 October. The Commission President’s Chief of Staff, Bjoern Seibert, and the US Security Advisor, Mike Pyle, launched the new project when they met in Berlin on 25 October.
EU Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis has repeatedly expressed concern about the impact of the IRA on European electric vehicle producers, as the US law favours US manufacturers in its tax credits (see EUROPE 13050/25, 13012/16).
The task force, which will meet next week, should help to address these concerns.
Some Member States have called for this issue to be mentioned in the joint statement of the third meeting of the EU-US Trade and Technology Council, according to two EU sources.
The previous joint statement of May 2022 had already been the subject of discussions on the listing of trade disputes between the EU and Washington (see EUROPE 12952/10). (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
