26/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – Tropical tuna, including bigeye tuna, and bluefin tuna, will be the topics that will dominate the next annual meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) from 14 to 21 November in Portugal, according to a statement by a European Commission representative made on Wednesday 26 October. The Commission told the European Parliament’s Committee on Fisheries that if there were no agreement on tropical tuna, the current measures would have to be renewed, which would be a “disappointment”. For bluefin tuna, the idea would be to introduce a new stock management procedure and it would be possible to increase the total allowable catch (TAC) in the eastern Mediterranean, according to the Commission.
