European Commission and European Parliament reiterate their desire to prevent and manage diabetes in EU

The European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakides, discussed diabetes with MEPs at their plenary session in Strasbourg on Monday 21 November. The Commissioner welcomed the European Parliament’s draft resolution on the subject.

For Ms Kyriakides, the fact that diabetes cases have doubled in ten years is alarming, as the disease acts as a multiplier and leads to or is linked to other pathologies. Diabetes accounted for 9% of healthcare expenditure in Europe in 2019.
