07/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 6 October, the European Commission approved a new Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) for Spain, ‘Vaca Gallega - Buey Gallego’, the meat of cattle belonging to the breeds Blonde de Galicia, Brunes de Asturiana de los Valles, Limousin, Blonde d’Aquitaine, Friesian and Alpine Brown, reared in the territory of Galicia. Cattle breeding in Galicia dates back to prehistoric times. On 5 October, the Commission also approved a new PGI from Germany, the ‘Peitzer Karpfen’, a flatback mirror carp raised in Brandenburg. Almost 1,600 agricultural products are already protected at EU level. (LC)
