European Commission and UEFA renew cooperation until 2025

07/10/2022 (Agence Europe)The European Commission and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced on Thursday 6 October the strengthening and extension until 2025 of their institutional partnership initiated in 2014 (see EUROPE 11176/21). They will step up joint efforts to use the visibility of UEFA’s pan-European competitions, such as the men’s and women’s European championships, to bring about positive change across Europe, focusing on EU priorities such as climate action, equality for all and social inclusion. The UEFA-led Convention on the Future of European Football will take place in November, bringing together representatives of fans, players, clubs, leagues and the governing body’s 55 member associations. The Commission will participate as an official observer of the process. This partnership underlines UEFA’s and the EU institution’s opposition to the creation of a private European superleague. (MB)
