On Thursday 6 October the preparatory team for the establishment of the future Unified Patent Court presented the roadmap for its implementation with the entry into force of the agreement scheduled for 1 April 2023.
“The UPC preparatory team is excited to share the implementation roadmap”, reads the Court’s webpage. This roadmap outlines all the key activities and milestones for the UPC in the coming months. It shows the provisional implementation phase starting on 3 October and running until 31 March. From 1 April, the period of the Unified Patent Court agreement will begin.
It took more than 10 years from the EU Council’s adoption of the two regulations on the creation of the unitary patent (see EUROPE 10755/12) to its concrete implementation, after a ratification process fraught with obstacles, particularly on the part of Germany (see EUROPE 12474/17).
