07/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, announced on Friday 7 October in Prague that the Heads of State or Government of the European Union had approved the nomination of the Swiss-French Thérèse Blanchet to the post of Secretary-General of the Council of the EU, a position that has been vacant for several months following the departure of Jeppe Tranholm-Mikkelsen from Denmark. Ms Blanchet has been the Council’s legal adviser since 2019. Member States’ ambassadors to the EU (Coreper) have yet to formally endorse the EU27’s decision, while French ambassador Philippe Léglise-Costa was Paris’ initial choice.
