21/12/2021 (Agence Europe) – Vice President Maroš Šefčovič met, on 21 December with his new UK interlocutor for Brexit and the Northern Ireland Protocol, Minister Liz Truss. “I’m committed to continue working towards a conclusive understanding”, he summarised on Twitter. “The EU’s position is known. Our goal: stability and predictability”. For her part, Ms Truss has put the threat of Article 16 back on the table to reassure anxious ‘Brexiters’ after the departure of David Frost. “The UK position has not changed. We need goods to flow freely between Britain and Northern Ireland, end the role of the [Court of Justice of the European Union] ECJ as the final arbiter of disputes between us, and resolve other issues”, she said. “Our preference remains to reach an agreed solution”, but “if this does not happen, we remain prepared to trigger Article 16”, she warned.
