21/12/2021 (Agence Europe) – The Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU handed over the file on the revision of the Eurodac Regulation to the French Presidency on Tuesday 21 December, after it became clear that it could not reach a partial agreement. A briefing was given to national ambassadors to the EU on the text of the Pact on Migration and Asylum, which the Slovenian Minister of the Interior, Aleš Hojs, had hoped to push forward at the last EU Council of Home Affairs ministers (see EUROPE 12850/1, 12848/12). According to one source, the logic of the Pact package and some ongoing differences over the substance of the text prevented it from advancing further. An agreement, also partial, on the future European asylum agency is the only progress made in 2021 by the Member States regarding this Pact on Migration and Asylum. (SP)
