Agreement between coastal states on catch volumes of mackerel, blue whiting, and Atlanto-Scandian herring for 2022

At a meeting in London on Wednesday 27 October, delegations from the European Union, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, and the United Kingdom reached agreement on management measures for mackerel, blue whiting and Norwegian (Atlanto-Scandian) herring in the North-East Atlantic waters for 2022.

For these three stocks, the European Commission said in a statement published on Thursday 28 October, the total allowable catch (TAC) for 2022 has been set in accordance with scientific advice from the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES).

For the mackerel stock, the TAC for 2022 is 794,920 tonnes, 7% less than the TAC agreed between the parties for 2021.

For blue whiting catches, next year’s TAC has been set at 752,736 tonnes (19% less than for 2021) and for Atlanto-Scandian herring, catches for 2022 are forecast at 598,588 tonnes (8% less than in 2021).
