EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT PLENARY / Taxation

European Parliament adopts its opinion on exchange of information on revenues from digital platforms

10/03/2021 (Agence Europe)On Wednesday 10 March, the European Parliament adopted by 568 votes in favour, 63 against and 64 abstentions, the draft report for opinion drawn up by Sven Giegold (Greens/EFA, Germany) on the revision of the directive on administrative cooperation in the field of taxation (see EUROPE 12528/3). The vote in the plenary session did not change the text, which was adopted at the beginning of February in parliamentary committee (see EUROPE 12651/25). MEPs fully support the objective of an automatic exchange of information between Member States’ tax authorities on income earned by sellers on digital platforms such as Uber and Airbnb. The text further proposes that information received by a national authority may be used for purposes other than tax purposes, if the legislation of the Member State in question so permits. The EU Council has already adopted its position on the text, in December 2020 (see EUROPE 12613/1). (MF)
