10/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – The French Finance Minister, Bruno Le Maire, spoke out in favour of harmonising the European and American taxonomies on sustainable finance at a press conference on Wednesday 10 March, following a meeting in Paris with the US Special Envoy for Climate Change, John Kerry. During their meeting, the two men acknowledged that finance was “the sinews of the climate war” and they discussed a number of initiatives in this area. “I therefore proposed to John Kerry that we should have an identical taxonomy between the United States and Europe. Europe has already made a lot of progress on taxonomy (...) It would be a shame if, at the end of the day, we had two rules, two taxonomies, one in the United States and one in Europe. This would be a source of considerable confusion between our two continents”, he explained. The United States has agreed to work with France on this issue, he said. (MF)
