Agricultural organisations and cooperatives in the EU (Copa-Cogeca) awarded their prizes on Wednesday 10 March, on the occasion of the 6th edition of the ‘Innovation Award for Women Farmers’.
“We aimed to demonstrate how women farmers foster the development of new business models and their active role in tackling the biggest challenges in agricultural and forestry climate action”, says Copa-Cogeca.
The winner and the Special Achievement Award were announced by María Angeles Benítez Salas, Deputy Director General of DG Agriculture and Rural Development, and Peter Schmidt, President of the ‘Section for Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment’ of the European Economic and Social Committee.
In first place, the winner is Spain’s Nazaret Mateos Álvarez, who produces ecological mushrooms (‘zero waste’). In second place, the Special Achievement Award went to Immacolata Migliaccio, an Italian organic farmer using digital technologies.
MEPs Evelyn Regner (S&D, Austria) and Carmen Avram (S&D, Romania) attended the event. Nazaret Mateos Álvarez will receive a prize of €10,000 and Immacolata Migliaccio €5,000 from the seed company Corteva Agriscience. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
