On Tuesday 9 March, the European Commission decided to appoint Mario Campolargo as Director-General of the Directorate-General for Informatics (DIGIT) with immediate effect. Mr Campolargo, a Portuguese national, has been Deputy Director-General of DG DIGIT since 2016.
Elisabeth Werner has been appointed Deputy Secretary-General of the Commission. The effective date of this appointment will be determined at a later date. Ms Werner, an Austrian national, is currently Director of Land Transport at the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE).
Also, Elena Flores Gual will take on the role of Deputy Director-General for the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN).
Ms Flores Gual, a Spanish national, has been working in DG ECFIN since 1990.
The Commission has also appointed two new Heads of Representation for Belgium and Greece. Ms Niovi Ringou will act as Head of Representation for Greece from 16 May 2021. Stefaan De Rynck will assume his duties as Head of Representation for Belgium on 16 March 2021. In 2016, Stefaan De Rynck became advisor to Michel Barnier, former European Commission chief negotiator for Brexit.
Finally, the Finnish national Marja Hennessy will continue her career as the new Director of Translation at the Directorate-General for Translation (DGT). (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
