Parliament urges EU to take action to put end to plundering of natural resources in Congo to fund rebel outfits

Brussels, 21/11/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 20 November 2008, the same day as the United Nations Security Council decided to increase MONUC troops (the UN mission to the Democratic Republic of Congo) by 3000, the European Parliament called for MONUC's material and human resources to be immediately stepped up so it can fulfil its role of protecting civilians. The EP also calls for MONUC to investigate the plundering of mineral resources in the North Kivu region (bordering on Rwanda)...
