29/09/2006 (Agence Europe) - Maria Cappone, leader of the delegation of Bulgarian observers to the EP, states that she is "deeply saddened and appalled" by insulting remarks from another Bulgarian observer, Dimitar Stoyanov of the party Ataka, to MEP Livia Jaroka, who represents the Hungarian Roma at the EP (see EUROPE 9275). In a letter to Ms Jaroka and to the presidents of the EP and of the EPP-ED group (of which Ms Jaroka is a member), Ms Cappone states on behalf of her fellow Bulgarian observers: "we will personally bring to the attention of the Bulgarian government" this behaviour. Mr Stoyanov "apparently, and in no way does he represent the values and beliefs to which we have been committed as a nation", she said. As for Georgi Gotev, head of the Bulgarie EU Press Center, he has stated that this was a "provocation" on the part of Ataka against Bulgaria's joining the EU.
