Brussels, 21/09/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 21 September, the European Commission announced the appointment of Daniel Jacob as Deputy Director General in charge of Community Research Programmes at DG Research. Aged 56, of Belgian nationality, Mr Jacob, who is to take up his new post in the near future, is currently the director responsible for staff regulations, policy, management and advice in the DG for Personnel and Administration. Mr Jacob is familiar with the way DG Research works as, from September 1999 to February 2003, he was Head of Cabinet for Philippe Busquin, Research Commissioner, within the Romano Prodi Commission. Among other things, he has served as Head of Unit at DG Transport (maritime transport -internal market) after having worked (from January 1995 to June 1999) as Neil Kinnock's Deputy Head of Cabinet, when Kinnock was Transport Commissioner.
