Commission anticipates possible economic upturn in euro zone in second half of year, but is refraining from excessive optimism and may review its growth forecast for 2005 downwards

Brussels, 06/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - Great uncertainty surrounds the economic prospects for the euro zone, which recorded a downturn in the second quarter, after a modest improvement at the beginning of the year. Various indicators suggest that greater growth levels could come to light in the second half of the year, but the risks related to oil prices will make themselves felt over a longer period than anticipated, and world imbalances on current accounts will undeniably be a factor....
