Brussels, 27/10/2004 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has, off its own bat, decided to authorise the marketing of food and food ingredients derived from Monsanto's genetically modified NK 603 maize, whether they be intended for human consumption or animal feed. Member States were unable to come to a majority position either for or against the proposal of authorisation, and so the full right to take the decision finally fell on the Commission.
