Green light for acquisition of Midlands Electricity by E.ON

Brussels, 18/12/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has authorized the acquisition of the British company Midlands Electricity by Powergen UK, a subsidiary of E.ON. E.ON is active in the fields of electricity and gas. Its main activities in the United Kingdom are the generation, distribution and supply of electricity. Currently owned by Aquila Inc and First Energy, Midlands Electricity operates an electricity distribution network in the West Midlands region of the United Kingdom. It also has some small gas supply and shipping activities. The Commission stated that the acquisition will mainly affect the electricity distribution and gas supply market and that the effect on the market will be negligible.
