Brussels, 18/12/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided to take Luxembourg to the European court of Justice for non notification of transposition measures for European rules on energy labelling for electric ovens. The 2002/40/EC directive on labelling electric ovens, adopted on May 8 2002 should have been transposed into national legislation by 31 December 2002 at the latest. Luxembourg was the only Member State to have failed to communicate its transmission measures on this directive by this date. The Commission is seeking to direct consumers to the purchase of domestic appliances that consume less energy by getting manufacturers to declare what energy is consumed by their appliances and to label the appliances with the appropriate category of energy efficiency (A for the bet G for less efficient).
