Draft EU/Canada agreement on wine and spirits to put end to trade friction over names

Brussels, 24/06/2003 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has officially forwarded to the EU Council of Ministers the text of the draft agreement signed end April between the EU and Canada on the marketing of wines and spirits. Once the Council has approved the agreement and the latter has been fully implemented, the names "Port", "Sherry", "Chablis", "Rhine" and "Marsala" will be used in Canada only to designate European wines.
