In the United States, IDEC is to launch a public takeover bid of $6.79 billion for another American company, BIOGEN. The move will give rise to BIOGEN IDEC, the third largest biotechnology company in the USA after AMGEN and GENENTECH. It will make around $1.55 billion in annual turnover.
