Germany requested to remove obstacles to import of Austrian "Schwedenbitter", Italy for import of sports and medicinal products and Ireland for import of building materials

Brussels, 04/07/2002 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has formally requested that Germany, Italy and Ireland remove obstacles to the free circulation of specific goods:

  • Germany forbids the marketing of an Austrian product, "Original Schwedenbitter" (which is sold freely in Austria as an alcoholic drink) on the pretext that it is a medicinal product requiring special authorisation. The Commission considers that it is not a medicinal product but a herb-based alcoholic product...
