Council should adopt its "common positions" on two Directive from "Erika" package by qualified majority if necessary, and will discuss other aspects of maritime safety

Brussels, 19/12/2000 (Agence Europe) - Nearly one year to the day after the sinking of the Erika tanker off the French coast, the Transport Council will dedicate a major part of its works, this Wednesday, to maritime safety. The Ministers should adopt "common positions" on the Directive that strengthen the checks on ships, examine proposals presented in November by the European Commission, and hear the Commission's intentions on the human aspects of maritime safety.
